Every Dynamics consultant knows it: the out-of-the-box document generation capabilities in Dynamics or Power Apps are far from ideal.
To truly meet business needs, a third-party solution is almost always required—especially in the following scenarios:
- Document templates change regularly
- Conditional logic is needed within templates
- Fields need frequent formatting (e.g., dates, times)
- Data from related tables must be displayed easily
I’ve compared several third-party tools that I found suitable for use with Dynamics and/or Power Automate. This is not an exhaustive list, and I welcome your input—if you’re using another tool that should be included, feel free to let me know and I’ll consider adding it. Please note: this comparison table is intended as a general overview and may not always be fully up to date or comprehensive.
Evaluation Criteria
Each tool was reviewed based on the following:
- GDPR compliance – Availability of a European server
- Template building – Whether templates can be created in Word (via add-in) or require an online editor
- Dynamics integration – Whether document generation can be triggered from a standard button in Dynamics (or a model-driven app)
- Power Automate support – Availability of prebuilt actions for Power Automate (otherwise, an API may be used)
- API access – Whether a public API is available for document generation

- Dox42 – Offers on-premise deployment options
